Answer

There are two possible errors (so far) that result in strange in-app purchase behavior:

1) On phones that have been "jailbroken", when you try to purchase the barcode scanning option, you may get the error:

“This is not a Test User account. Please create a new account in the Sandbox environment. [Environment: Sandbox]”

This is an issue that results from the jailbreaking process. It can be fixed by performing the following steps:
1) Backup any of your current data
2) Remove appsync via cydia
3) Remove iBookshelf/My Box Office/Disc Tracker/My Library
4) Reboot 5) Reinstall iBookshelf/My Box Office/Disc Tracker/My Library
6) Purchase the barcode scanning option
7) Reinstall appsync via cydia

Everything should be working now!!

2) While attempting the in-app purchase you may get the error "You can't purchase this. You must purchase the app that this item is for..."

This issue occurs for one of two reasons:
  • There's a glitch in the iPhone iTunes Store account
  • You're trying to purchase the scanning option with a different account than you purchased the main app

If you have two different iTunes accounts and are trying to purchase the barcode scanning feature using an iTunes account that did not purchase the main app you can fix this issue perform the following steps:
1) Under the iPhone Settings app, scroll to "Store" and then tap the "Sign Out" button.
2) Using iBookshelf/My Box Office/Disc Tracker/My Library, attempt to purchase the barcode scanning option again
3) This will force you to re-login to iTunes. Make sure to login with the same account that you purchased the main app with

Everything should be working now!!

If you are attempting to purchase the in-app purchase with the same account, try following these steps:
1) Under the iPhone settings app, scroll to "Store" and then tap the "Sign Out" button.
2) Reboot your iPhone
3) Go back into the main app and attempt the in-app purchase again.

iTunes will force you to login again from scratch and you may be able to purchase the item now.
